Paperback

This two-volume work contains writings of over 400 Japanese men, most in their late teens and early twenties, who died during the final ten months of World War II in what non-Japanese people call suicide or kamikaze attacks.

The letters, diary entries, and poems were written after assignment to the Special Attack Corps, which had the mission to carry out sure-death attacks to sink Allied ships. Many writings include typical militaristic and patriotic expressions popular during the war, but the selected writings also provide insights into the men's thinking, emotions, and concerns as they confront impending death. Most writings appear in English for the first time.

This work has been catalogued by the United States Naval History and Heritage Command, and archived in their library. It has also been archived in the library of the National Tokkotai Memorial Association of Japan.

Me and Yukio Mishima

A Fanmade Anthology Celebrating 100 Years Since His Birth

In honour of Yukio Mishima's 100th birthday, an anthology of sincere fan contributions have been compiled that individually convey their unique perspectives, and appreciation for this enigmatic person. As varied and distinctive as the readers themselves, the essays in this book capture the myriad dimensions of Mishima's multifaceted personality. These works, which come from Japan and other countries, demonstrate the lasting influence Mishima has on people from many walks of life. Readers can better appreciate Mishima's impact as a writer and as a symbol of artistic and philosophical expression because each work is private and personal.

Note: Each entry is presented in both English, and Japanese. This is an unofficial fan anthology.

Anadromous (adjective)
anad·ro·mous

1. The migration of aquatic species, particularly fish, from the sea into fresh water to spawn.
2. From the greek anadromos, (ana - 'up' and dromos - 'running') meaning 'running upward'.

”In June 2024 I bought my first camera, a Nikon F3. Shortly thereafter, I began to take photos almost every day. What most photos showed were frequent returns to my old home, Byron Bay, punctuated by brief intermissions in my temporary new home, Brisbane, and my older-yet home, Sydney. Like a salmon drawn to its spawning pools, as often as I can, I have 'ran upwards' towards home.”
- Dalamar Charles Derofe-Gallant

All of the photos contained in this book have been taken on the same camera, on film. None have been post-processed, with scans almost entirely completed by Bayou Film, in Byron Bay.
